We are pleased to report that our May meeting drew 22 members. In addition, we welcomed 3 new members: Reed Jenkins, Ben Inabinette and Bethany Creel (who joined her Dad, Louie Creel, at a forge).
Jim Dungan has copies of the Forging Fundamentals, Controlled Hand Forging available for the membership. Copies of A Blacksmith Primer: A Course in Basic and Intermediate Blacksmithing are also available at our cost of $22.00.
With only a few items available for Iron in the Hat it was decided to have an auction instead of the usual drawing. Buddy Leonard stepped up as our auctioneer and brought in $100 for our Scholarship fund. Thanks to Buddy and all those who joined in the bidding.
The scheduled election of officers for the coming year has been postponed. The present officers will continue to serve at least until the next meeting. Sid Gale has agreed to serve one more year as Treasurer (not including the office of Secretary).
Glen Wesley is offering his Treadle Hammer for sale. The price is $1,000 (what he paid for it). Contact Glenn at glenwesley@cox.net.
John Perilloux is hosting the June 12 meeting of the Louisiana Art Metalsmiths Association at his home/forge. All GCBA members are invited to attend. John and his wife will be providing lunch but anyone wishing to add to the potluck will be welcomed. Check out his site: John Perilloux Metal Art.
Directions to John’s shop: Take I-12 to exit 47 – Hwy 445 north to Robert. About 2 miles north is the traffic light. Continue exactly 3 miles to Brignac Road on the left. Follow Brignac Road through several turns and ups and downs to the very end to his shop.
