St. Edward the Confessor School in Metairie recently held their annual Colonial Day. Students dress in period costume and take part in various events reminiscent of early America life.
GCBA was invited to provide a blacksmith to demonstrate the craft which was so important to the everyday life of the colonies. Phil Love volunteered to provide the demonstration.
Groups of students came to his location 8-10 at a time to watch Phil make leaf key holders and nails. Each group spent about 15 minutes which was enough time for Phil to make a leaf key holder or a nail. Phil also had on display his set of cooking utensils, hooks and candle holders.
The students were very attentive and asked questions about the processes. Phil did a great job and we are sure he will be invited back next year.
