Our October 24 meeting at Buddy Leonard’s shop brought out 24 members and guests. We welcomed new member Billy Davis. He got right to work in the back making an S hook.
Buddy Leonard demonstrated basic blacksmithing techniques beginning with the proper way to start a fire continuing with anvil work and hammer control. It was instruction suitable for beginners as well as more experienced smiths. We sometime lose sight of the most basic methods which are key to being an accomplished blacksmith.
Work continued on enclosing the back shop with the north side doors being covered with panels and the south side frames fabricated and hung. Next meeting should see the fabrication and mounting of the back wall frames
and panels. Our usual crew was on hand for this work with a new member, Drew Harrison also assisting and furnishing a personal power tool in the process.
Members were reminded of the upcoming demonstrations at the Boy Scout 100th Anniversary Celebration at the Avondale Scout Reservation near Clinton, LA. Also the Bush Tractor Pull on November 6, and the 25th Annual Scottish Highland Games and Celtic Music Festival to be held at the Harrison County Fair Grounds on November 13-14. Members volunteering for any of these events should advise Sid Gale or Chuck Robinson.
Iron-in-the-Hat produced over $60 toward our Scholarship Fund.
Betty and Buddy Leonard graciously provided Red Beans and Rice for lunch with the usual soft drink and desert.
